What Is Grape Agate?
Grape Agate is a great unique name, but it’s not scientifically accurate. It’s really a Chalcedony, not a Agate. It has beautiful purple aggregates, these are tiny quartz crystals with a spherical (botryoidal) habit. The name reflects the beautiful purple colors and how they occur in clusters that resemble a bunch of grapes.
The "grapes" of these specimens are very small. They range between 2-8 millimeters across. Although purple is the best color to match the "grape" name, some specimens have grapes that are blue, green, gray, and white.
Where Can You Find Grape Agate?
Grape Agate is a gemstone that is not found in many places. In fact, it’s very rare versus many other crystals. As of 2023, this crystal has only been found in two locations.
These crystals were found in the Mamuju area, near the western coast of Sulawesi, this is an island of Indonesia. They’ve also been found West of the Green River in Utah.
